The tower construction is phase II of the III phase new Air Traffic Control Tower master project.

The project was bid in late 2010 and awarded early 2011. The Construction is scheduled to be completed early 2012. This is a very important project to the airport and has seen much media attention capped with a visit from Senator Jon Tester (D-MT). The project utilizes 100% Montana based labor and contractors, only the structural steel was provided from out of state.
